Saguaro Lake

Location: Phoenix, Arizona

Elevation: Low

Approximate Time: 3 hours

Length: 6 miles

This hike is a fun half day long loop around Saguaro Lake. The lake looks like a mirage as it is surprisingly large for being right in the middle of the desert. This hike is best to do in the early morning so that you miss the heat of the day and I think that almost anyone could enjoy the medium level difficulty of this hike considering that there is little to no elevation.

My mom and I had a great time pointing out the different types of cacti to each other and commenting on the rumor we heard about the jumping cholla. Jumping cholla are cacti that apparently will eject their pointy stems if you walk to closely or brush against the cactus. The saguaro cacti are also really neat to observe and don’t seem to be as dangerous as the jumping cholla. If you were wondering.. we didn’t see any jumping cholla so I would definitely recommend this hike. Let me know if you see any dangerous cacti on this hike!
